Energy Vibration & Sound Healing Explained

Sound is not only perceived through our ears, but experienced through our skin and organs as well. The very first sense organ that is developed in the embryo is the inner ear, and it is the last sense to go when we die. The total experience in the womb is hearing and vibration sense, as our bodies are made up of 60% + water and sound travels through water 5x better than through air. There are 3x as many connections from the ears to the brain as there are from the eyes to the brain.

The sound coming in from the ears feeds the neurological system, and the auditory nerve directly connects to every organ in the body.

In the book The Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece, the principle of vibration states that “…nothings rests, everything moves, everything vibrates.” The human body operates like a musical instrument, with every organ, tissue and bone in a constant state of vibration. And according to the ancient Hermetic teachings, every thought or emotion has corresponding vibrations, which are reproducible like musical notes.

During our life experience, we all have moments of trauma (micro or macro events) that we have not been able to process completely, and the suppressed emotions and meaning that we attach to the events (thoughts and beliefs about ourselves and others) get lodged somewhere in the body as an unhealthy energy pattern. We also inherit unhealed trauma passed down from generation to generation that we still have dna/cellular memory of.

The body is always seeking to be in a state of harmony and resonance, and it is most at ease when it feels the resonance of a sympathetic nature from another source. We can intentionally use sound/energy to bring about a greater sense of wellness through this sympathetic resonance (a harmonic effect where a passive vibratory body responds to external vibrations to which it has a harmonic likeness.)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is meant by energy, vibration, and sound?

Sound is a form of vibrational energy moving through a medium at a specific frequency. Human hearing perceives only a small range of this vibrational spectrum, yet the body interacts with vibration far beyond what we consciously hear. In this context, sound is understood as part of a continuous field of energy that influences physical, emotional, and neurological processes.

How does sound affect the body beyond hearing?

Sound is received not only through the ears, but also through the skin, tissues, organs, and fluids of the body. Because the human body is largely made of water, vibration travels efficiently through it. Sound stimulation reaches the nervous system via the auditory nerve, which has direct pathways influencing multiple organs and regulatory systems.

Why is sound considered so powerful in healing work?

The auditory system is deeply connected to the brain and nervous system. There are significantly more neural connections from the ears to the brain than from the eyes. This makes sound a direct and efficient way to influence states of relaxation, coherence, and regulation within the body.

How do thoughts and emotions relate to vibration?

According to both ancient philosophies and modern understandings of resonance, thoughts and emotions carry vibrational qualities. When experiences are not fully processed, the associated emotional and energetic patterns can remain held in the body. Sound and vibration can help bring these patterns back into harmony through resonance.

What is sympathetic resonance?

Sympathetic resonance occurs when one vibrating system responds to another with a similar frequency. In sound healing, carefully chosen tones and frequencies can encourage the body to return to a more harmonious state by offering it vibrations it naturally recognises and aligns with.

What is cymatics and why is it important?

Cymatics is the study of how sound vibrations create visible patterns in matter such as water or sand. It demonstrates that sound has an organising effect on physical material, offering visual evidence of how vibration can influence form and structure.

How does this relate to sound healing sessions?

Sound healing applies these principles intentionally, using vibration to support nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and energetic coherence. Rather than forcing change, sound offers the body a resonant environment in which it can naturally reorganise and restore balance.
